Doing a covid test in Baja California Sur – locations, costs, time
Disclaimer: With the changes in the restrictions, it is not necessary right now (06/2022) to do a covid test in order to fly/transit in the USA; with a changing covid situation, this may change; this is why I will still keep this article.
Doing a covid test in Baja California Sur
Whereas it has been mandatory to show a negative covid test for every destination you are traveling to before boarding a plane, this – at least at present – only counts for destinations or transits in the USA. In order to be able to board a plane to the USA, you have to do a covid test one day before the scheduled time of your plane.
I don’t want to argue about the necessity of a covid test in times when most of the tests result negative because people are asymptomatic or tests aren’t accurate… what I want to explain today is doing a covid test in Baja California Sur is possible.
Airports in Baja California Sur
There are basically two airports in Baja California Sur – one in La Paz and the other one in San José del Cabo. As I was traveling through San José del Cabo, I will focus on giving you the locations for doing a covid test in Baja California Sur close to this city. Unfortunately, I haven’t done any research for locations in La Paz.
Doing a covid test in Baja California Sur – costs and time
In general, doing a covid test in Baja California Sur for traveling costs between 700 MXN and 1.000 MXN with only tests for trying to figure out if you are positive (and not the certificates for traveling) that cost less (600 MXN).
The given time between taking the test and receiving the certificate is given with 2 hours. In general, you will receive your covid test within an hour.
Doing a covid test in San Jose del Cabo
In San Jose del Cabo, there are quite a lot of possibilities where you can do a covid test. One is that the hotel you stay can come to the hotel. The hotel in which I stayed, for example, they offered doing covid tests at 9am in the lobby of the hotel.
Other than that, San Jose del Cabo also has a mobile clinic on the main road between San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. There is also a lab at the Malecon of San Jose to be found easily on Google Maps („GA Lab Laboratories Malecon San Jose“).
Doing a covid test in Cabo San Lucas
As for Cabo San Lucas, you can find a laboratory there, too. It is called “Laboratorio ATM”, just about one block from the main road going through San Lucas.
Doing a covid test in Todos Santos
The place where you can do a covid test in Todos Santos is the Hospital Saint Judes (Google Maps: “Hospital Saint Judes Medical Center”) in the street parallel to the main street of Saint Judes.
In none of those labs and clinics is it necessary to have an appointment – just go there, give them some ID (passport or driver’s license), fill out the form and pay, either with cash or credit card, go for a coffee and wait for the results. 😉
